Ann & Matt’s Autumn Wedding in Silverthorne, Colorado
the 1st look
You never know what weather October is going to bring in Colorado, especially in the high altitude of Summit County. The day before their wedding the sun was shining and temperatures were in the pleasant 50’s. No one expected to wake up the next morning to 30 degree temps and snow covering the ground. It was gorgeous, but cold! But no worries for this laid back couple, Ann & Matt stayed relaxed and in high spirits. After all, their wedding day was finally here! And this wasn’t just a wedding, but a huge party with all of their loved ones and even with one of their favorite bluegrass bands performing! These two best friends were about to tie the knot in celebration with those that meant the most to them. And with lots of excited guests, drinks, and dancing, everyone found ways to stay warm and enjoy themselves.
Here is a list of their vendors that helped make this day so awesome:

They had a fairly large wedding party with 7 bridesmaids and 8 groomsmen, including their good friend Jeff who officiated the ceremony for them. There is always so much anxiety and anticipation that builds up right before the wedding that its nice to have your best friends there with you to help you stay cool and collected. Matt and his men got ready for the wedding while Ann had her mom and bridesmaids join her to help her get dressed for the big day.

Ann & Matt are huge live music fans and bonded over the years watching jam bands at Red Rocks and dancing at electronic music festivals around the country. Matt is also a guitar teacher so instead of the traditional sign-in book they had their guests sign a guitar. And in keeping with the fall theme they decorated their ceremony site with pumpkins and fall foliage and used small pumpkins to tag everyone’s table assignment. And as a big fan of sunflowers, Ann made sure to include them in her bouquet and floral arrangements as well.

Ann & Matt chose to do a 1st look before their ceremony. So we stationed him up on the bridge outside the venue while Ann, holding back tears, walked towards the man she would soon pronounce her love and commitment to.

Regardless of the cold weather, they still held their fall wedding outdoors, along the river outside the Silverthorne Pavilion. The bride had a beautiful white fur coat to keep her warm, but when you’re finally experiencing your wedding day that you have been meticulously planning for over a year, well a little cold air is no big deal in the scheme of things. One of their best friends officiated the ceremony which made it more personal and entertaining for their guests. After the wedding ceremony we finished their wedding party and family photos, being extra careful no one slipped on the ice in their high heels.
I LOVE it when I see guests paying attention to the ceremony instead of to their phones! Its also a huge compliment that says to us “we trust our photographers, let them do their job”

Since we did a 1st look with the bride and groom which allowed us to do most of their formal photos beforehand, we were able to finish up their pictures quickly and get them back inside for their cocktail hour. And this wasn’t just any cocktail hour…this was a party with one of their favorite local bands, The High Desert. This bluegrass band kept the guests dancing and moving, which also helped keep everyone warm and cozy inside!

The toasts are one of my favorite moments of the day. Typically its the bride and groom’s best man and maid of honor, along with the couple’s parents, that are responsible for this task. They share stories, secrets, or just tales of love and laughter with the guests. It gives everyone, including myself, a more intimate look into the relationship of the couple with personal insights that even Facebook may not know about.

After some funny and intimate toasts it was time to dance! For their first dance together as husband and wife, Ann & Matt chose the song “Harvest Moon” by Railroad Earth. They each danced with their parents and then the dance floor opened up to all. To add to the fun on the dance floor they had a smoke machine, hula hoops, and a variety of lights decorating the venue such as Aspen trees projected on the walls, multi-colored lights illuminating the floor, and a fiber optic whip for dancing which was so neat I even had to take a turn with it!

Their wedding was a blast and I was so glad to be a part of it. They had those closest to them helping with so many details from the music to the lighting, it was truly amazing how well everything came together with lots of planning and help. Thank you Ann & Matt for having me document your wedding day, I hope to run into you at a concert in the near future!
