Romantic and Rebellious Bride and Groom

I don’t know who set the rules, but I love it when they’re broken.  After all, after photographing about 200 white wedding dresses, no dress is more unique then one that’s royal blue with Victorian gothic inspiration.  I have been looking forward to Molly & Jim’s Day of the Dead themed wedding since I did their engagement photos in a pumpkin patch last Halloween. (Click here to see those scary fun engagement pictures) Molly & Jim are both tattoo artists and wouldn’t dare have a normal traditional wedding….and I couldn’t have been more excited to have been chosen to document their unique artistic wedding day.

Molly looked absolutely stunning with her bright red hair and deep blue Victorian wedding gown.  Her unique wedding dress was created by a professional designer that also creates costumes for Cirque du Soleil…so you know she has amazing talent.  Words can’t express how awesome her dress was.  So many elaborate pieces, layers, and details from the sexy red boots to the colorful undergarments. Even her tattoos and exotic bouquet by The Flower Shop complimented her perfectly.

Molly & Jim decided to do a 1st Sight to get all their pictures out of the way before the ceremony.  The look on his face is priceless when he sees Molly in her custom made exotic wedding dress for the first time.  I have to say I have never seen Jim smile so much, and I’ve never seen a more uniquely beautiful bride.

Day of the Dead wedding at Lionsgate in Colorado

The Gatehouse of Lionsgate Events Center in Lafayette, Colorado, turned out to be the perfect backdrop for their wedding.   It has black iron gates, vintage decor, brightly colored walls, and unique details such as elaborate chandeliers and even a stuffed peacock.  I’ve done many weddings at Lionsgate before but this one certainly was much different then any other I have photographed there.

Reverend Jody Stevenson was a perfect match for them and I could tell she was truly delighted to take part in such a unique ceremony.  The bride & groom wrote their own vows, of course….which were not only heartfelt, but funny & entertaining as well.  Immediately following their wedding ceremony Molly & Jim didn’t just sign a marriage license, they also had their tarot cards read!  As far as I could predict, Molly & Jim are destined to have a very happy and very interesting life together.

Molly & Jim had so many unique details.  Wild spirals in the wedding flowers, a Halloween candy bar, lots of candles and black painted tree branches, and even death tag wedding place cards for the guests.  Play the slideshow at the bottom of this blog post to view more of their wedding pictures and their unique details.

Guests were encouraged to come in Day of the Dead costume, and lots of people arrived with their faces fully painted.  This cute girl below was the flower girl.

Below the bride dances with her father, who couldn’t’ have been more proud.  He beamed all night with excitement and love for his daughter.  And you can see the Lionsgate’s pet peacock watching from his perch in the background.  Molly & Jim’s friend, DJ Marc Eden-Hansen, doesn’t normally do weddings, but took on the challenge of creating a soundtrack for their unique wedding night.
