Joy & Scott’s Wedding Picture Preview
fun wedding party picture by Denver wedding photographer Nicole Nichols
Joy & Scott pulled off an amazing wedding in a short amount of time. We had just recently done their engagement pictures and I had just finished their engagement book less then two weeks before the wedding. And with a lot of hard work and helping hands their wedding day came together beautifully at Pathways Church, aka Temple Events Center, in downtown Denver, Colorado.
You can see the love in this couple’s eyes and know how happy they are together. Their ceremony was performed by their pastor Ken Elsner, with music by Brent Joyce (below), and attended by all of their closest friends and family members. Joy was the first bride I have every seen surprise her husband by singing a love song to him during the ceremony…that took lots of guts, and she nailed it!

Joy decided on gray and yellow for her wedding colors which matched perfectly with her fun modern DIY theme. Her family helped with the flowers and decor, and her mom even baked an endless supply of cakes to compliment the dessert bar. Their were lots of custom paper decorations, such as yellow paper lanterns, paper streamers, and lots of other random papers to read and decorate with. I loved their unique table centerpieces which consisted of different sized vases painted white, and finished off with bright yellow individual flowers…it was very mod in a modern kind of way (see a photo of that moment in the slideshow below).

One of the funnest additions to her wedding reception was a photo wall that was constructed with framed photos of other family members wedding pictures & portraits with 3 empty frames for guests to poke their head in. They made their own box of silly props ranging from clown wigs to fake mustaches and encouraged guests to dress up and take pictures posing through the wall. Not only was this a fun unique idea but it was great to see they still had so many of their family wedding pictures from way back when. It always inspires me to see wedding pictures taken from the 20’s or 50’s and see how much the style of wedding dresses has changed, as well as how much the style of photography differs from today. And it’s great to see how much these now family heirlooms are treasured and to know that one day the wedding pictures I take may be displayed at a great grandchild’s wedding 100 years from now. Since it was a later ceremony Joy & Scott skipped the traditional dinner for a huge dessert bar….homemade cakes, custom cupcakes, a wide candy assortment, and of course it wouldn’t be complete without frozen yogurt with lots of toppings!

I loved how Joy added yellow detail to her white wedding dress with yellow high heels….and then changed into yellow sneakers for the reception (see photo below). It’s almost hard to believe they pulled off so many details in only three months…but goes to show you what is possible when you’re determined to do something.
